Increase in voice and visual search

Smart speakers like Alexa have become more popular in recent years. In 2019, it was estimated that there were 3.25 billion digital voice assistants used in devices worldwide. And by 2023, it is forecasted to grow to 8 billion – similar to the earth’s population at the same time. 

But it’s not just voice search that’s on the rise – we can also expect other creative search methods to become more mainstream, like visual search. Tools like Google Lens allow consumers to search for whatever they can see. It’s predicted that over the next year, visuals will become increasingly important in the SEO game.

New ways to consume content

2020 saw people moving to new, easier ways to consume content like podcasts, that can be consumed on-the-go. Podcasts are a highly engaging medium for delivering messages. Listeners tend to follow every word and usually don’t tune out during ads, making them a perfect audience.

Cookies are small files that websites save onto user devices when they visit websites. Their purpose is to exchange user information between applications. Marketers use cookies to learn about their audience’s interests, purchases and preferences. Cookies help improve the customer experience and allow businesses to gather a lot of customer data. Because of the privacy concerns among consumers, businesses are starting to reconsider their use of cookies. Safari and Firefos have already blocked third-party cookies, and Google plans to get rid of them completely in 2022. Now is the time for businesses to start considering other ways to collect data.
